Giant Edison Screw Light Fittings and Lamp Parts
(GES) is a standard light bulb type for Lamp Fittings. Edison bulbs have a RH threaded metal base which screws into matching E40 Edison Lampholders
Light bulbs (or lamps as they are sometimes called) are available in various shapes colours and sizes all with matching E40/GES lampholders.
The Edison fitting was developed by Thomas Edison, patented in 1881, and licensed in 1909 under General Electric’s Mazda trademark.
For bulbs powered by AC current, the thread is generally connected to neutral and the contact on the bottom tip of the base is connected to the “live” phase.
